What is the Young Adult Program?
The program is a federally funded program that provides eligible young adults assistance in achieving academic and employment success.

What does the Young Adult Program Do?

  • Assists out-of-school youth (OSY) in obtaining a GED
  • Provides year-round education and employment opportunities
  • Assesses barriers for individuals and facilitates in eliminating them 

What Services are available through the Young Adult Program?

  • Tutoring and instruction leading to a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent
  • Alternative secondary school offerings
  • Paid and unpaid work experiences
    • Summer or other opportunities throughout the year
    • Pre-apprenticeship programs
    • Internships and job shadowing
    • On the job training opportunities 
  • Occupational skills training
  • Leadership development activities
  • Supportive services
  • Adult mentoring
  • Follow up services
  • Comprehensive guidance and counseling
  • Education offered concurrently with workforce preparation activities and training for a specific occupation or occupational cluster
  • Financial literacy education
  • Entrepreneurial skills training
  • Labor market information
  • Activities to help young adults prepare for post-secondary education and training 

Who is eligible?

  • Individuals between the ages of 16-24
  • School dropouts
  • Recipient of secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent who is low income and is either basic skills deficient or an English language learner
  • Someone who is or has been involved in the juvenile or adult justice system
  • A homeless individual, a runaway, an individual who is in foster care or who has aged out, a person eligible for assistance under section 477 of the SSA or an individual who is an out-of-home placement
  • Someone who is pregnant or parenting
  • A low income individual who requires additional assistance to enter an educational program or to secure/hold employment
